Trentham Starbucks Drive Thru – public consultation

Trentham Estate is one of the UK's most visited destinations, welcoming over 3.8 million visitors in 2025 and making an exceptional contribution to Staffordshire's visitor economy. To ensure Trentham continues to thrive and  meet the needs of its visitors and wider catchment, Trentham Leisure Limited is proposing to add a Starbucks Drive Thru café to the estate.

The proposed Drive Thru would be built on an existing area of hardstanding car park, south of the Premier Inn. It will not adversely affect any listed buildings, the Grade II* Registered Park and garden or Trentham Conservation Areas, or green spaces.  Trentham's focus on conservation and environmental standards are central to everything the estate does, and this proposal does not detract from that purpose.

The project team is inviting local people and visitors to review the proposals and share their views before a full planning application is submitted to Stafford Borough Council.

What is Trentham Estate?

Trentham Estate is a 725-acre, privately-owned estate managed as a major tourist destination by Trentham Leisure Limited. It is home to the award-winning Trentham Gardens, historic Italianate Gardens originally designed by Sir Charles Barry in the 1830s and set around a mile-long lake laid out by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown in the 18th century.

The estate also includes Monkey Forest, a Blue Diamond Garden Centre, 80-lodge Trentham Retail Village, a 119-bedroom Premier Inn and extensive recreation and play facilities.

Trentham Estate: one of the UK's top day-out destinations, welcoming over 3.8 million visitors in 2025.

Why does Trentham’s continued investment matter?

Trentham Estate is one of the UK's most visited destinations, welcoming over 3.8 million visitors in 2025. Its success is not accidental, it is built on continued reinvestment to keep the offer fresh, relevant and competitive.

Trentham's commercial performance directly supports:

  • The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent visitor economy

  • Local employment across hospitality, retail and leisure sectors

  • The estate's ongoing conservation and environmental stewardship

  • Visitor spend in surrounding communities, businesses and transport links

To remain a destination of national significance, the estate must continue to evolve. The proposed Starbucks Drive Thru is the next step in that journey and also seeks to fill a gap in the drive thru network along the A34 corridor.
